DC UNION SQUARE

Snøhetta and Spirit of Space teamed up to create a short film that highlighted the main concept behind the Washington DC Union Square design proposal. In DC Union Square, the team merged animated graphics, memorable text, and emotionally sensitive renderings to express the experiential feeling of the design.


ST. LOUIS CAN SOAR

With Spirit of Space, the SOM/BIG/HARGREAVES team developed a presentation that explained their ideas with clarity, making a film that was extremely personal, highly narrative, and most of all, fun to watch. In St. Louis Can Soar, the team merged interviews, renderings, and animations with the rich history of the existing site.

Any project, especially of this magnitude, has so much more to offer than just the final design solution. SFO TERMINAL 2, PROCESS

Created for Gensler Architects and Turner Construction this film shares the insights into the design process, and the immense sensitivity to sustainability and to the city of San Francisco.  Capturing a behind the scenes look at the construction process, Spirit of Space visually reinforces the dedication to quality, highlighting the necessity of forging close relationships in the design-build approach.  It was played at the terminal’s opening reception.


Aqua

This film was created for Studio Gang Architects through a mixture of real and virtual worlds.  It visualizes the design concept and design process for the Aqua Tower.  It focuses on the unique design which allows views that would otherwise be unattainable.

Spirit of Space was contracted to create a viral animation video to increase awareness about the value of NEXT.cc.  NEXT.cc is an eco web that develops ethical imagination and environmental stewardship.  It introduces what design is, what design does, and why design is important.

SFO TERMINAL 2

Gensler Architects and Virgin America teamed with Spirit of Space to document this fresh overhaul in airport design: San Francisco International Airport’s Terminal 2.  While the routine of traveling may be completely familiar, encountering SFO T2 while in transit is pleasantly unfamiliar.

Waterline was commissioned by Phil Enquist (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill) in junction with the eponymous studio at the Harvard GSD for Fall 2011. Students will explore the realities of three sites along the South branch of the river and think of ways to make it more relevant to the public.


Starlight

Created for Studio Gang Architects, this performing arts theatre was filmed to capture the true essence of a day in the life of its kinetic architecture.  It focuses on the intimate social settings, landscaped boundaries, stage life, and the dynamic “observatory to the stars” roof that opens in fair weather.


Burnham Pavilions

Realizing the Burnham Pavilion structures were going to be temporary, Spirit of Space took the opportunity to capture the experience of these vibrant, colorful, and engaging public spaces.  With the pavilions now removed, we hope their spirit can live on through this short film.


FIDM

CLIVE WILKINSON ARCHITECTS

This film reflects the exuberance of the fashion world by highlighting the bright colors and student activities.  Combining four campuses into one film highlights the on-going relationship between the client and architect.  The college was a hit with students, staff and visitors.  Since its completion is 2002, student enrollment has increased 400%.


Mein Haus Am Horn

Through stop-motion photography, this film expresses the spirit of space of the first building ever presented to the public and designed in the Name of the Bauhaus.  Designed by Georg Muche (the youngest Meister at the Bauhaus) and realized by the Gropius Architects, along with Adolf Meyer as the site manager, this house was built in 1923 for the first great Bauhaus Exhibition.

SOUTH POND

STUDIO GANG ARCHITECTS

Spirit of Space captured the pavilion as it took shape by documenting the entire construction process on film.  Upon completion, they went back to capture how the public interacts with pavilion and its surrounding boardwalk: families on bike rides, students learning about nature, and a yoga class stretching under the pre-fabricated pods.

For a recent design competition, SOM/BIG/HARGREAVES sent Spirit of Space to St. Louis to find out what people’s perceptions are of the Gateway Arch grounds. What came out of it was dynamic research. The simple tools of observation and interviews show how one can learn an incredible amount about how to make our cities more livable.

Created for Clive Wilkinson Architects, the Los Angeles TBWA\CHIAT\DAY headquarters was brought to the moving image to better express its “Advertising City” concept.  It focuses on the rich urban characteristics of the design while capturing the lifestyles of those interacting with, adapting to, and enjoying the open, business-focused architecture plan.
