ADAM GOSS

Director + Founder of Spirit of Space

Adam, along with partner Red Mike, founded Spirit of Space in Chicago in 2006. He was educated as an architect at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During a semester of architectural study in Milan, Italy, the passion for understanding the relationship between film and architecture blossomed.  Shortly after befriending Red Mike in Italy, the two saw the power of using film to communicate the value of design.  With a keen interest in business operations, Adam has taken on the managerial aspects of the firm.  In 2008, he became part of the adjunct faculty at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and began teaching a film + architecture course.

RED MIKE

Director + Founder of Spirit of Space

Red Mike, along with partner Adam Goss, founded Spirit of Space in Chicago in 2006. He was educated first as a structural engineer at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and later received his Master’s in architecture from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.  During a semester of architectural study in Milan, Italy, he was intensely interested in figuring out how to use a video camera in new ways to document the architectural design process.  Red Mike’s passion for research and development, along with a desire to be near the love of his life, led him to Germany where he continues to study Media Architecture at the Bauhaus while directing films for Spirit of Space.

RYAN CLARK

Music Director

Ryan was educated as an architect at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  Upon graduating, he moved to Portland, Oregon to work for GBD Architects.  During this time, he continued to pursue his passion of music composition.  He offered to create the soundtrack for Spirit of Space’s first film: Starlight.  The results were so profound that, in 2008, he moved to Chicago to work full-time as the music director of Spirit of Space.  He now creates original soundtracks for all of their films.  He also assists Adam at the School of the Art Institute as a visiting artist, teaching students about the power of the film’s soundtrack.

DEAN STORM

Director of Spirit of Space Detroit

Dean graduated with a Master of Architecture from the University of Detroit Mercy in the spring of 2011.  And having worked with Spirit of Space both in Chicago and Detroit since the summer of 2009, Dean has firmly established his place on the team.  In addition to directing and producing films, he also contributes as lead writer, continuously crafting the voice of the company. Dean also teaches courses in architectural design, contemporary architectural theory, and digital media at UDM, because he appreciates playing a formative role in architectural education.

CHRIS MURPHY

Editor + Big Thinker

Chris was educated as an architect at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  Spirit of Space found him while documenting the continuing film series for the UWM Chicago Studio, to which Chris was participating in.  His curiosity in the phenomenological aspects of architecture and film inspired a non-traditional approach to architecture.  With his love for travel and a journal and sketchbook always by his side, his pursuit to learn and think big is a welcome addition to the Spirit of Space team.
